Tours

Looking for a unique tour for family, friends or just like-minded individuals…. or scouting for a quaint setting for a wedding, birthday, anniversary, family reunion, corporate event, the list is endless….. look no further than South Sea Orchids. A -9-acre homestead, with a nursery, the property has beautiful gardens, surrounding the family home, as well as outdoor venues which can cater for various events.

Well over 5 decades ago, the tour arm of South Sea Orchids began with the South Sea Orchid Tour, which caters for groups of a minimum of 15 people. Upon hearing South Sea Orchid Tour, one immediately imagines a garden tour of orchids. However, it is so much more, and located just 10 minutes from Nadi International Airport, it is well worth a visit.

Don, a third generation European of Scottish, English and Welsh descent, with his wife, Aileen, a beautiful mix of island and Chinese ancestry, are renown horticulturists, pioneers to the flourishing horticulture industry in Fiji. For years they have been welcoming visitors to their home and surrounding nurseries, sharing the history of their ancestors through the wonderful memorabilia in their home, a family museum which imparts so much history to all who visit.

Once seated in the warm, welcoming home of the Burness family, stories of artefacts, some dating back nearly 300 years, are shared. View musical instruments, still in pristine condition, that have been played by 3 generations; inspect crockery gifted by the royal families of Fiji, Tonga and the United Kingdom; observe the tools of everyday living from yester year, and there is still more to learn.

Following the home visit, refreshments are served before a tour of the nursery. Housing more than 60,000 plants, which vary in type, size and number, the nursery provides an insight to the beauty and vulnerability of some tropical plants which form the base of the Fiji horticulture industry.

With the tour providing a historical insight through actual relics within a beautiful home, and nestled in exotic gardens, it is a unique experience, and ideal for visitors who may not want to spend an entire day out.
